Chisinau, 26 April /MMOLDPRES/ - Only several Moldovan TV channels observe the copyrights and related rights. The other TV channels broadcast pirated programmes and movies. The head of the association for development of culture and protection of copyrights and related rights, Vasile Nastase, made statements to this effect at a news conference today. Nastase noted that the massive phenomenon of piracy at some TV channels cannot be foiled as the latter are founded and patronized by Moldovan politicians. Nastase also said that neither the Audiovisual Coordination Council (CCA), which is obliged to prevent piracy, has undertaken anything to this end over the last four years. Vasile Nastase stressed that the association he leads took a string of measures to prevent TV piracy of products belonging to renowned international companies. Nonetheless, the association has not achieved the expected results yet. He asked for the involvement of both civil society and state bodies, including the Prosecutor General's Office and the Interior Ministry, to combat piracy. Data by the association for development of culture and protection of copyrights and related rights, which is set to monitor 17 TV channels during one year, show that over 80 per cent of the movies aired by Moldovan TV channels are pirated.
