Chisinau, 27 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Vlad Filat met EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos in Brussels today, the government's communications and press relations department has said. Prime Minister Vlad Filat appreciated the attitude and openness showed by the European Commissioner in relation to Moldova. The prime minister referred to an evaluation mission of European Commission experts, held in Moldova on 31 May - 2 June 2010, and made a short presentation of what Moldova has meanwhile achieved following this mission. Vlad Filat said that Moldova is set to have a deeper and multi-dimensional cooperation, so as to gradually adjust the legislative and normative framework in the agro-food area to the EU principles, norms and standards, to enhance the competitiveness of the Moldovan products, and hence - the penetration of the EU agro-food markets. Vlad Filat said that Moldova relies on the speeding up of the procedures regarding the EU's financial assistance for Moldova, as well as on procedures concerning the agreement on free and deep trade with the European Union. The prime minister stressed the importance to increase the share of Moldovan wines' export to EU, specifying that such a step would contribute to enlivening the Moldovan wine-making and vine-growing branch. The prime minister also touched upon the issue of floods faced by Moldova, emphasizing that 700 houses are to be constructed. Also, the prime minister said that 10,000 hectares of farmlands have been compromised. Vlad Filat said that, till 15 August 2010, the joint commission for the assessment of damages will end its activity, so that the assistance which will be provided is well-directed. Dacian Ciolos reiterated EU's willingness to give Moldova macro-financial support, stressing that all the procedures will be completed next autumn. Referring to the increase of the Moldovan wines' share on the EU market, the European commissioner said that the necessary demarches to this end have been made, underlining that specific procedures to such situations are to start soon. Dacian Ciolos estimated that the share given to the Moldovan wines on the EU market will be doubled. The European commissioner also said that, in September 2010, a report on the free trade with Moldova will be presented. He voiced confidence that the dialogue in this respect will be dynamic and productive. The European official said that the Moldovan government's political determination to promote the reform-oriented agenda is very high, and good progress has been made in many fields. He said that EU will continue backing Moldova on the road of reforms and democracy.
